mc-Product General / Re-Post "Interesting interaction with IFTTT"

Interesting interaction with IFTTT

I have 7 of my modules set up to log to IFTTT, and some of the data seems to arrive in a big batch, which makes the date column my IFTTT recipe has pretty useless. I'm not sure there is anything to be done about that, other than ignoring the times IFTTT gets events.Like
13d

The problem im having is that I need accurate dates, but I'm already using all three IFTTT arguments, so sending the date will be interesting. I could potentially leave out one of the arguments i'm using, but I didn't want to.Like
13d
Speaking of dates, none of the modules I've changed to send a date via IFTTT and DateTime.Now().ToString() have the right time. If it was just a timezone issue I wouldn't care, but the minutes are off as well.
For example, It's 10:55pm, May 18th 2016, and I get 2/7/2036 6:33:26 out of the modules.Like

The batch like behavior of IFTTT is a problem, which we cannot solve. The wrong time is solved in the code of the gateway, who provides time to the modules. Load the new application processor in the gateway. See release notes.Like

Hi,. sorry for the delay, I think I managed to get it updated today. finally. It took trying a few different USB sticks. Maybe it doesn't like some USB3 sticks? It seemed to take off my 16GB USB2 Patriot stick. Gw versions are 0.6-354 (Gw Version) and 0.6-402 (LpLan Version). When I tried updating previously, it wouldn't actually flash, it would do the fast blinks, I'd release the button, and it would immediately go back to the regular status blinks. This time it actually stayed solid for a while before going back to the status blinks. Hopefully those are the latest versions, i just re downloaded everything to make sure.Like

mc-Dongle / Re-Post "No mc-dongle bootloader found"
« on: June 01, 2016, 05:51:28 pm »
'No mc-Dongle-Bootloader found'

I just received my McStuff. After reading all of the posts, it's clear that the first thing one should do is update the firmware using the OTA Updater. After connecting the McDongle I could see that Win 7 loaded all of the drivers. But after I started mc-OTA Updater – v1.2.1 the status message was ‘No mc-Dongle-Bootloader found’.
I checked Win 7 Device Manager and can see a COM 60 port, which I guessed was the McDongle. If I unplug the McDongle then the COM 60 port goes away, it reappears after I plug the McDongle back in.
I've tried plugging in the McDongle first, then starting the mc-OTA Update, but no joy. The I've tried starting mc-OTA Update and then plugging in the McDongle. In all case I always get the ‘No mc-Dongle-Bootloader found’ message on the lower left part of the status line.
What really obvious thing am I missing?Like

My McDongle was initially plugged into my laptop docking station, which means that there's a hub in the USB chain. I just tried plugging the McDongle directly into one of my laptop ports, but I still get the ‘No mc-Dongle-Bootloader found’ message' from OTA Updater.
I tried this because I've had a few USB devices that didn't work well with a hub, but it made no difference in this instance.Like

It looks like pin 5 (P0.01/AIN2) and pin 6 (P0.02/AIN3) are have a solder bridge between them. Is this intentional?Like
5d
I removed this solder bridge but the OTA Updater still doesn't find the McDongle. I connected to the FTDI 230X chip using PuTTY @9600 and monitored pin 15 (TXD) with a scope and I can see expected serial data when I press a key in PuTTY. Also, when I press a key in Putty I can also see green LED50 blink with each keypress. The TXD signal also appears on pin 18 of the Nordic nRF51422. The 32KHz oscillator on pins 54/46 of the nRF51422 is alive but the 32MHz oscillator on pins 37/38 is dead. nRST on the SWD header is high.
That's all of the troubleshooting I can do without a schematic or an ARM SWD interface.
Do you have my information needed to send me another McDongle? You should be able to cross-reference my name with my order. I'll also send an email to Thomas E. referencing this thread.Like

mc-Product General / Re-Post "OTA bricked my McModule"
« on: June 01, 2016, 05:44:59 pm »
Received the package today and tried to connect a McModule to the McGate as explained in the video. Failed to connect.
So as read on the forum, I performed an OTA firmware upgrade to v0.6-354. This went well for the first 100%, then the McModule rebooted and ended in an endless blinking RED led. McDongle indicated that firmware upgrade failed ( Now the module can be detected with the McDongle, but is unvisible for the McGate.
What to do? Any ideas?Like

Couple questions:
- did you attempt to program the module before updating the firmware using mc-OTA?
- Can you re-attempt to update the firmware on the device again using mc-OTA please? It's possible there was an error during the initial update. please re-try and let us know what the status is afterwards. Remember to take the battery out of the module, connect the mc-Dongle and open mc-OTA. Select the firmware version and enter the module # in the top right of the screen. When you press ‘Search Device’, then insert the battery into the module to update the firmware.Like

Couple answers:
- yes, I did try using the module before updating the firmware assuming that an older function could function as well;
- I re-attempted the procedure of updating the firmware a couple of times using your procedure, and guess what, that worked! Not the first time, but a little while later the OTA reported: success!
Thanks for the good response, the module is not bricked!Like

mc-Module / Re-Post "McModule 110 technical docs/schematic"

Is there a McModule schematic or other detailed technical docs available? This would be useful if one wanted to modify the McModule. I looked in the Support/Downloads documents section but didn't see anything.Like

REPLY mc-T2Admin6d
Hi Urbite! We do have some more detailed product info in the product page of the website. If you go to products and then click on the mc-Mod110, there is a product data sheet that has some useful info. Does that help?Like

urbite6da1
I looked at the mc-Mod110 product page earlier. While this information is helpful, it's also not as complete as what I was looking for. And it's not in the form of a User/Tech manual for the mc-Mod110 in downloadable PDF format.
The main thing missing is the schematic. Without we don't have any information about what other chips (temp, accelerometer, voltage regs, etc.) on on the module. A properly annotated schematic would allow one to extra almost all of the other needed information. The only specific connectivity information I've found is the pin definitions on the back of the PCB.
A tech/user manual for the mc-Mod110 (and other products) would be a nice addition to your product or support pages )Like

REPLY mc-T2Admin6d
Hey Urbite!
Agreed, the product sheets on the website are useful but don't provide the specific information you are looking for. Rest assured however, this is on our list of things to complete as soon as possible. We want to make sure everyone has the details they need to complete their projects and get full usage out of the mc-Things platform. We will post them as soon as they become available. thanks for your patience!

mc-Product General / Re-Post " starting from ground zero "

I update one mcModule with the firmware image …352.bin
I removed previous version of mcStudio and reinstalled the latest version 0.6.882
Got my mcGateway installed red LED solid, amber LED solid and green LED flashing.
Started mcStudio with example project Blinky.
I selected Tools/Device where I can see my mcGateway (with the right serial number) and was able to connect the gateway. Got the ‘check’ as being Active.
Had to remove and reinstalle the battery of the mcModule in order to see the device.
I selected it, but mcStudio failed to connect.
I don't if this is a result, but the green LED of the mcGateway stopped flashing.
I unplug and replug my mcGateway and started over again.
This time, mcStudio saw the mcGateway and the Device and trying connecting. I gave up after 180 seconds (3 minutes).
Gateway GWVersion is 0.6-353 and LpLan Version is 0.6-350, for your information.
Any suggestion to get me to connect to my unit. I have many more to go.Like

I had a lot of trouble getting these things to work consistently at first. When I exited the program and restarted mcStudio each time I started a new project or worked with a new module, things worked 100% of the time, provided I had entered the code correctly. I also got a lot of “fail to connects” before doing that. I got 1 and 2 lights blinking on all the modules and even loaded the programs onto a couple of them as it’s shown in Josh’s mcStudio Introduction video.
I did notice a few things (that techies most likely know but must be learned by novices like me):
- Double or single line spacing when writing code does not matter. Cut and paste wherever you can.
—This works  when you enter “Shared Event blinkLed()”, “Shared Event blinkLedRed” or ‘Shared Event LedRed“ in all cases where only one LED is used. When 2 events are entered, the colour of each must be specified, so ”Shared Event blinkLed" won’t work with 2 lights (see code on page 12 in the mcScript us er guide).
- These devices are built like a brick shithouse. I accidentally dropped one, stepped on it and it is working fine.Like

The filename or directory name contains a space. That problem should be solved but the name is also saved in some other files. You have to do the following:
1. Uninstall mcStudio
2. Delete all the files in install directory. There is probably a file called Settings.xml left that needs to be deleted.
3 install mcStudio.Like

Hi Guys – Thanks for your help.
So I have done what you suggested – Now my Gateway will not appear in the devices. If I click on configure Gateway it crashes. If I click connect gateway nothing happens.
Should I load the older version of the MCStudio?

Reply mc-T2Admin19d
Hi Flook!
To start, if you select one of the virtual gateways (these are in the software for testing and will eventually be removed) but if you select one of the virtual gateways and press config, the system will crash as it stands today.
How have you connected your gateway to the network (WIFI or Ethernet?) and is your gateway configured for the network input (there is a switch for WIFI or for Ethernet on the gateway itself). You can see if it is successfully connected by having a solid Amber light (connection indicator)

flookdigital19d
I have no connection to MCStudio with the gateway – Solid Red power, Solid red comm, flashing amber status. I uploaded to the gateway the newer .bin firmware and now I have a gateway that connects. Studio still crashing but I managed to make the red led blink! Phew!
