mc-Module / Possible range between McModule - McGateway
« on: August 10, 2016, 03:35:19 pm »
Hi guys,

Can I ask you how much distance there can be between the McGateway and a McModule in practice while still transmitting signals succesfully to one another?

I want to monitor the position of my garage door (open/closed) via the accelerometer and put it onto a MQTT server.  I got all things up and running for when the gateway and module are really close to each other (say up to 3 meters or so), but the signal does not seem to be received when they are further away from each other.  That means, 6 or 7 meters or so!  As I want the module to monitor the state of my garage door, ideally it should work with a wall in between, but even with a clear line-of-sight, I don't succeed in receiving the signal when they are separated 6 or 7 meters.

In order to eliminate some other possible causes, I have put a brand new CR2032 battery in place and have updated the firmware of both the module and the gateway to the newest versions available.

Any advice on this matter?  Rather important I think, as the wireless tranmission of the signal over a decent distance (I assumed 10 meters would certainly be possible) was precisely the reason why I supported/bought your product (the product specification even mentions up to 200m under optimal line-of-sight conditions?).  Could it be that I am doing something wrong in my configuration, setup, ... or so?

Kind regards,

Peter

mc-Gateway / Re: Connection gets lost with gateway

Typically, the device (gateway) will remain visible within the list.  However, the box "IsConnected" goes from checked to unchecked (and therefore also the connection with the associated McModule is lost).  I have the impression that it mostly occurs when I try to run a test or load a builded application onto a module.  No specific message or dialog appears, except when I was in the process of loading an application onto a module, then it states that it could not load the code onto the module.

mc-Gateway / Connection gets lost with gateway
« on: June 24, 2016, 05:57:07 pm »
Hi guys,

I am able to connect with my gateway and module in McStudio, but always lose my connection with the gateway after a short time (sometimes even after a few seconds).  This makes it almost impossible for me to upload any code to my module.

I'm using WiFi, but the network seems to work fine: when I ping the gateway via its IP address, no problems seem to occur.  However, in the "Device Maintenance and Connection" screen of the McStudio, I can only establish a uninterrupted connection of a few seconds...

The problem occured when I was testing under the firmware updates of June 18th, but remains after I updated the firmware of the gateway to the version of June 23th.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Hi guys,

I have two small questions, of which I do not seem to find an answer in the documentation.

1) If I understand it correctly, the accelerometer would allow me to find out whether a module is placed horizontally or vertically.  Via which variable(s) can I access this information in the scripting language?

2) If I understand it correctly, you can test code by pressing "run" in the McStudio environment, after which the code is run on the module's RAM which is cleared as soon as the power from the module is removed.  If I build and load the code onto the module, it is placed in the flash memory of the module permanently (and is also kept when the power is put off and on again).  How can you remove this code from the flash memory again afterwards?

Thanks for your response!

Kind regards,

Peter
