Hi Brad and ryant,

This is odd behavior and we need a bit more info. Could you do the following please:

1) download this tool: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/FT_Prog_v3.3.80.386%20Installer.exe

2) Run it while the device is connected without mcStudio running.

3) See attached picture. Can you tell us what is listed in the 'Product Description' when you run the application please? (See highlighted text in the picture)

mc-Studio / Re: mcStudio sitting on "Debug: Running:"
« on: June 15, 2017, 02:59:11 pm »
Hello,

Did you hit the 'Run' button? If so, this is the debugging feature and is not actually loading the code into Flash. Debugging works by running the code in RAM so that you can check on variables and ensure that your code is doing what you expect it to.

When you go to load code into the device, you need to 'Build' (compile) the code and then 'Load' it into the device. You can do this either using the toolbar buttons or by pressing F6 (Build) and F7 (Save and Load). You can also go to the 'Project' menu and select 'Build' and 'Load' functions.

Also, and yes this video is using an older version of mcStudio (We will be updating these videos soon!), check out this YouTube video on our channel to help you work with mcStudio:

Hope that helps!

mc-Gateway / Re: Cannot see the gateway in mcStudio
« on: June 13, 2017, 04:15:27 pm »
Hello all,
sorry that you are seeing some weird behavior. I can say that I just tested an mcGateway110 and was able to update it completely (both the application processor and the GWHost). I can also see the mcGateway within mcStudio and can connect to it without issue.
Checking with our team, here are some suggestions to see if we can get things back up and running for you:

@Veleek -  it seems like the USB upgrade did work (based on the lights you see)
Have you ever upgraded the gateway previous to this?
Can you try the OTA process again but this time don't enter the ID of the device, leave it blank and see if the OTA picks up the gateway

@Bernstern
Can you confirm that you were able to update the gateway using mcOTA to the newest version?
Can you try connecting the gateway to WPS again and see if it connects to your network? If so, you might want to consider entering the SSID and password within the gateway config so that the gateway has that information going forward

Hi Veleek,

The button is there for you to program it to whatever you wish to use it for. You could program it to provide power, turn off power, etc

For some example code, check out the plug posts within the forum and you can also check out an example project on our Hackster.io hub

Hey Keith,
This is odd as I have been working with an mcDemo205 with the latest version of everything and have not had the same issues.

Are you connecting via USB to program or doing this wirelessly through the gateway?

Hello,
Have you updated the firmware on the mcDemo205 to the latest version? Also, are you using the latest version of mcStudio?

We just did a full release last week with all new versions for everything. Please update and let us know if you are stills seeing the same issues

Thanks

Hello,

Here is a link to the website to download the new mcStudio: https://www.mcthings.com/products/mcstudio/

For each device, you need to go to the product page and download the mcOS for your device. Since there are many devices, that would be a lot of links. So, for the devices you have, go to the individual page on the website to download the mcOS for your devices:
https://www.mcthings.com/products/

Hope that helps

Hi all!

We just released a new version of mcStudio and mcOS! We are now at version 0.9 so please, be sure to download all the new stuff and get your devices up to date!

There are a bunch of improvements in these new releases. Release notes for all mcOS firmware is available within the download folder. Check out the below release notes for mcStudio

mc-Studio v0.9

Solved problems
• Improved connection experience
• Files with only a LF ending are handled properly
• New project folders are no longer created if the project name is invalid
• Compiling multiple times is no longer necessary for complete complication
• Aborting opening of a new project does not close the currently open project
• Missing project files no longer cause a crash
• A breakpoint past the end of a class definition in a file could cause all breakpoints to be rendered invalid
• Exceptions no longer cause a crash

New functionality
• Updated Gateway Configuration dialog with new features
• Updated Log settings dialog with new features
• Simple file printing capability

The full version of the release notes for mcStudio are available within the download folder

Thanks!

Dave,
There is a new release today of mcStudio (and new versions of mcOS for all devices/modules). There are a lot of bugs/crashes that were fixed i this version so please be sure to download it. Should help to resolve the issues you noted about the application crashing sometimes

You can check out a portion of the release notes for mcStudio in this post: http://mcthings.createaforum.com/system-updates/new-release!-v0-9-for-mcstudio-mcos-for-all-devices!/

Hey Kbrooking,

It could be that the device is still connected as a device within mcStudio which could negate its ability to send out SIGFOX messages.

Can you try:
-   Load your programming either wirelessly or via USB serial connection
-   Remove the USB from the mcDemo205 and close mcStudio
-   You can then plug the device back in via USB to provide power or power the device from batteries

This should allow you to get SIGFOX messages back as the device would then be in a state of running independently. Does that make sense? Let us know how that goes

mc-Demo205 / Re: Programming the mc-Demo205
« on: May 23, 2017, 11:37:51 am »
Hello,

the 'Erase Script' function in mcOTA is provided in the rare instance that someone writes a script that 'bricks' a device. This can happen if you write a script that loops/bricks due to poor programming (yes, it happens!).

While working with mcThings devices/modules, you can overwrite existing programming by loading new scripts through mcStudio (either wireless via the gateway or USB serial connection with an mcDemo205). Loading new programming automatically overwrites the existing programming on the module/device.

There is no need to use mcOTA as a means to erase existing programming unless you have written a script that requires you to do so.
Does that make sense?

Unfortunately, no. SIGFOX is a great network however there is no QOS and the mcDemo205 cannot receive downlink messages (too costly on battery consumption) so there is no way that the device can know if it is in coverage at all.

There are some easy example projects available in the mcDemo205 documentation where you can send messages and then see if they are received on the SIGFOX backend. Alternatively, you can check the coverage map (www.sigfox.com) to ensure that you are in a covered area.

it's no good.
The example does work quite well, so I am not sure what the issue is other than that it doesn't do exactly as you wish. I pointed it out as an example of mcPlug code that you can take and modify for your own use

As mentioned, this is not a function that is built-in to the platform at this time. However, as mentioned, there are work-arounds so that you can design your own program. Have you tried to write your own script? Here is the help I provided in my previous reply:

there is no specific function to set an even to happen at a specific time however what you can do is have the device check the time at certain intervals and if the device finds that the time is within your specifications, then you can have the plug turn on or off something.

Have you looked at incorporating the examples your buddy sent over? You may also want to check around the forum as there are some recent questions and discussions about timestamps and their usage.
As mentioned, there are ways to do this. Part of the great thing about the mcThings platform is that there are almost endless ways you can program and modify devices which is why it is nearly impossible to have an example of everything you can do.

That said, if you read the documentation and take the time to putting something together, you can then provide an example script to others if you wish.
