Cant connect to mcDemo using mcStudio
« on: January 30, 2017, 11:13:07 pm »
Hi

I cant connect to my mcDemo205 using mcStudio.  Whenever I try using the online Getting Started guide I get the "Found 1 device.  Non of the devices is a Test board" error.

Why is this and what can I do to resolve this?

Brad

Hey Brad,
That is odd that you are seeing this error.

Troubleshooting:

1) You need to be sure that you are using a USB cable that doesn't just provide power but also provides data transfer (I know this seems trivial but it is quite important - not all USB cables can send data, some are just for power/charging)

2) It is important to follow the timing within the quick start guide as the device needs to be able have enough time to power and then be connected as a testboard gateway.

I tried to reproduce the error and was only able to when I didn't follow the correct timing that is discussed in the quick start guide. When I was able to reproduce the error, I clicked OK on the error and then went to reconnect to the testboard gateway and it worked fine. So it could be a timing issue. If the error comes up again, can you clear it and then try to connect to the testboard gateway right away and see if you can connect like I did please?
We'll take a look at this as well and see if this is something that we can improve.

Please let us know if you are able to connect to the device please
Thanks!

I'm getting the same problem with my new mcThings board.

I'm following the mcDemo205-User-Guide and still getting the same error after clicking connect gateway (Found 2 device. Non of the devices is a Test board.)

Is it odd that the Testboard Gateway shows up in the list before I've even connected it to my PC.

Hi Brad and ryant,

This is odd behavior and we need a bit more info. Could you do the following please:

1) download this tool: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/FT_Prog_v3.3.80.386%20Installer.exe

2) Run it while the device is connected without mcStudio running.

3) See attached picture. Can you tell us what is listed in the 'Product Description' when you run the application please? (See highlighted text in the picture)

Hello, I tried the FTDI program and it appears to return the same value mcDemo205.

Let me know if there is anything else I can try for you?
