Hey Brad,
That is odd that you are seeing this error.
Troubleshooting:
1) You need to be sure that you are using a USB cable that doesn't just provide power but also provides data transfer (I know this seems trivial but it is quite important - not all USB cables can send data, some are just for power/charging)
2) It is important to follow the timing within the quick start guide as the device needs to be able have enough time to power and then be connected as a testboard gateway.
I tried to reproduce the error and was only able to when I didn't follow the correct timing that is discussed in the quick start guide. When I was able to reproduce the error, I clicked OK on the error and then went to reconnect to the testboard gateway and it worked fine. So it could be a timing issue. If the error comes up again, can you clear it and then try to connect to the testboard gateway right away and see if you can connect like I did please?
We'll take a look at this as well and see if this is something that we can improve.
