McStudio crashing on opening
« on: November 16, 2016, 10:35:38 am »

Hello, I installed McStudio on a VM, W7 64bits. I have installed the latest firmware for both the donge and the McDemo205. My problem is after opening McStudio and trying to open a sample project I get the attached image and then the program closes. I have everything disconnected by the time I open McStudio in case that matters. Could you give me some advice?

Hello jflores,
Can you try deleting the 'Settings' file in the mc-Studio file and try again? This is a known bug that happens sometimes and is on our list of things to fix.
Let us know if that helps!

Could you tell me which one would it be? Doesn't seem to be one called like that.

Also I deleted the McScript from McOtha by accident, could you provide a link to download it? I can only find the .bin files for the 110 module.

Thanks in advance

So....I had no device connected to the gateway, did so with the mc-demo 205 and it would let me create new projects at least. Then I tried opening the GPS sample code and it crashed with a code similar or the same to the one I attached first. Since then I can't open McStudio.

Within the mc-Studio folder, that should reside (by default) in your documents file, there is a settings file that you can delete. This settings file contains the information on your last project and as mentioned, sometimes causes a crash within mc-studio. Deleting the settings file should solve that problem (See below picture)

When using mc-OTA, you have the option to erase the script that was loaded onto a module or an mc-Demo205 device. This does not delete the firmware on the device, it only allows you to delete the program/script that was loaded onto the device. This is an option in-case you create a script that 'locks' the device. An example of this would be accidentally changing the connection interval of the modules to a very high number (say 1 week as an example) and then you need to wait 1 week to actually connect to the module again to program it. With this option, you can then erase the script that is loaded onto the module and then it will go back to the default settings.

mc-Demo205 - In regards to the mc-Demo205, there is no new firmware for the device as of yet however, we will be making a section on our download section of the website to include the pertinent documentation for the device as well as a place for new firmware when available.

Please try deleting the settings file as mentioned above and in the attached picture. This should solve the problem

Let us know if you have any issues and thanks!

I deleted the file, now I can open mcStudio, but when I try to load a project I get this image.

Thanks on the firmware info, that was instructive.

Ok, so I needed to have the mcDemo205 connected so mcStudio could open up files. I have 2 issues now, I'm not sure if I should start another topic:

1. When I connect the device in the gateway, in type I get mcMod 110, tho it's the 205 demo.
2. When I try to run the program mcStudio crashes.

Any solutions for this?

Hello!

We discovered a couple bugs this morning in mc-Studio when using the mc-Demo205. I believe that some of the issues that you are experiencing may be solved with the new update. Please uninstall your old version of mc-Studio and download the new version (V0.7-905).

We are also adding in a new section to our Downloads section of our website to include information for the mc-Demo205. This section will include a 'Getting Started Guide' to help you work with using the mc-Demo205 when connecting via USB to your computer and also will include the product specification document that describes the technical details about the mc-Demo205 including examples and details about the on-board sensors on the device itself.

Are you opening a project within mc-Studio? There is a known bug that sometimes crashes or works improperly when you double-click a project file. Instead, please open mc-Studio, click file and then open your project. If the project is designed for the mc-Demo205, it should open properly.

2. When I try to run the program mcStudio crashes.
Try the above with the new version of mc-Studio and opening projects from within the application itself and let us know if you still experience problems.
Thanks!
