Unable to connect to Gateway from MC Studio
« on: March 29, 2017, 01:29:12 pm »
Hello!

I've started evaluating the mc Things platform this morning and I've hit my first snag!

I was able to update firmware on the mc-modules and mc-gateway using the mc-dongle.  Now I am trying to upload code to the mc-module.

When I open mc-Studio and select Tools -> Devices, I see my gateway appear in the list.  When I select the gateway and press 'Connect' a connection doesn't initiate, so not modules appear in the bottom pane.  I don't see any errors appearing in mc-studio or the application event viewer.  I noticed there is a logging option under Tools -> Options -> Logging, but when I click the checkbox for 'Connect device' it becomes unchecked when I close the window.  Are there any other error logs or event logs I could locate for troubleshooting?  Or perhaps is there something wrong with my configuration?

I'm running:
  • Two mc-Module 120 at v0.8-415
  • One mc-Gateway 110 at Firmware V0.8-421 and Application Processor V0.6-367 (as far as I can tell, the application processor upgrade works, I'm unsure how to verify the version)
  • mc-Studio v0.8.373.0

Other details or setups that might be relevant for you:
  • Both the PC running mc-Studio and the Gateway are wired via ethernet.  Both are attached to the same switch
  • The gateway has a reserved IP address on our LAN

Just another thing I'm wondering - is there anything I need to do to confirm that a module has been connected to a gateway?  Is it enough to simply power on the module next to the gateway or is there more to be done?

Let me know what I'm missing!

Hi kentb!

To help, can you please provide a screen shot of your device menu where you can see your gateway please? I want to verify the firmware versions and check out the IP address

Logging, but when I click the checkbox for 'Connect device' it becomes unchecked when I close the window.
This is known problem and will be fixed in the next version of mcStudio

When you are connected to the gateway, the modules will start to show up as in the device menu as the gateway receives beacons from the modules. When you see the module you wish to connect to, you will then click 'Connect Device' and will need to wait up to 60 seconds to connect to the module (this is a default setting - the connection beacon happens every 60 seconds). Once we get the connection issue above resolved, you should be able to see your available modules and then connect to start programming them

Tried it again this morning and it seems to work!  I rebooted so that probably fixed something.

Just need to follow the three R's of tech support: Retry, Reboot, Reinstall
